Cannot Lift Leg After Hip Replacement
I couldnt lift my leg either or put on my sock shoe for the first couple weeks.
Cannot lift leg after hip replacement. Please help me have tried everything and the doctors dont know what it is. If you had a hip replacement surgery you must be very careful about this to prevent hip dislocation. The nurse had to lift my leg for me every time I had to get up or get dressed.
The pain is excruciating and it feels like a muscle is taring out of my groin and goes down the upper leg. Do not rotate your hip inwards. For this you can also use an abduction pillow which acts as a special wedge and help you to keep your legs separated.
There were definitely tears but seem to have healed or are close to healed. I am 68 years old female and am 10 weeks post op cement hip replacement due to severe arthritis. After a month or two i started having issues with flexion and pain involving the psoas - leg lift putting on pants getting in and out of car.
Often hip or knee replacement surgery damages the peroneal nerve. If youre finding it harder and harder to get that foot up on your opposite leg it could be because of lost hip range of motion. I just want my life back.
Perhaps hip flexors are inhibited post op and maybe are weak pre op due to the usually long standing pain issues around the hip. Walking stairs light jogging and air squats body weight to parallel are all safe to do as well. I am in more pain and disable since the surgery.
Surgeons have gotten to the point where they encourage their patients to get out of bed just a few hours after surgery AND put as much weight as possible on the operated hip while walking. Overuse of certain hip flexor muscles. First of all moving the leg while laying down is a safe motion.
