Can You Have A Hernia In Your Leg
John M Uecker MD.
Can you have a hernia in your leg. See a doctor who can help. A hernia happens when an internal organ pushes through a weak spot in your muscle or tissue. I encourage you to get a physical exam if you have pain to determine the cause.
Even if it isnt painful yet the sensation and pressure may cause you to avoid certain activities. By far this is the worst symptom that you can have from a hernia. The tear gets bigger and the bigger the tear the bigger the surgery needed to fix it.
Hernias occur when one of the muscles around your stomach or pelvis develops a weak spot. This pain might shoot into your arm or leg when you cough sneeze or move into certain positions. A vascular doctor is perfect and a venogram to see what is going on.
A hernia becomes strangulated if blood flow to the trapped or incarcerated tissue becomes compromised. The nerves that would need to be impinged exit the spine and traverse the rear of the pelvis direct and indirect inguinal hernias are anterior to these structures. Overall femoral hernias are not common.
The pain may not just be in the area of the hernia. Pain in the groin is usually felt when exercising. The lump will be slightly below that of an Inguinal hernia although it is nearly impossible to tell sometimes.
Has been in practice in Austin since 2003. Keep your lower back close to the floor. What started as pressure or discomfort can turn into pain.
